WSU Spirit Squad
Become A WSU Spirit Squad Official Fan! 
The Washington State University Spirit Squad is made up of the cheerleaders, the Crimson Girls dance team and the mascot, "Butch T. Cougar." Each of the three groups plays a major role in creating spirit and enthusiasm at Washington State University.
The WSU Cheerleading Squad is made up of approximately 12 female and 12 male cheerleaders. They cheer at home and away football games, home volleyball, and home men's and women's basketball games. Besides weekly practices and games, the team also makes many appearances on campus and throughout the state.
The WSU Dance Team, the Crimson Girls, is in its fifth year. The team consists of 16 dancers with extensive experience. The Dance Team performs at home football, volleyball, and men's and women's basketball games. They can be seen at games and appearances performing all styles of dance including pom, hip hop and jazz. The team has placed second in the Hip Hop Division at USA Nationals in Las Vegas three times!
WSU's mascot, "Butch T. Cougar," was the 2006 CapitalOne Mascot of the Year! He is a well-recognized mascot and is loved by all. Butch is an energetic cougar who entertains fans at all WSU Athletic events. He also does appearances throughout the Northwest and can be hired for special events including birthday parties and weddings. Request Butch

Interesting Facts:
1919: The Cougar was officially adopted as the Washington State College Mascot. Prior mascots included "Squirt the Terrier" and the Indians.
1927: Herbert "Butch" Meeker led the Cougar football team to a 6-1 season. He also scored the winning touchdown against the University of Washington.
1944: Butch T. Cougar was named the official mascot for the battleship U.S.S. Washington during World War II.
2006: Butch T. Cougar was voted the CapitalOne Mascot of the Year!

The WSU Crimson Girls Dance Team, now entering its sixth year, is a group of 16 highly experienced dancers who perform at all home football, volleyball, and men's and women's basketball games. They also compete at USA Collegiate Nationals each year in the hip hop division, and make appearances at many campus events, fundraisers, and alumni gatherings.
